POV vs. Voyeur?

Do you prefer porn where you are passively watching the action like a voyeur or when you feel more directly involved?

I was just contemplating POV (point-of-view) style filming, where the performer looks directly at the camera lens, connecting with the viewer, sometimes speaking directly to the viewer. Like in ‘virtual fucking’ where I’m alone with the camera but the angles give the viewer the feeling I’m riding his cock or face…or when there’s a stunt cock in the scene but the camera angle is set up basically where his head is so the viewer feels like the cock in the vid is his…or the view from where a cuckold might be, or a slave inside a cage, etc.

I was thinking about this in relation to some of the virtual reality filming I’ve done recently with HologirlsVR (www.HoloGirlsVR.com). Full virtual reality (with the goggles) is certainly more immersive but more on that another day.

I understand a lot of my viewers have had little or no sex…or little or no kinky/FemDom/fetish experiences. It can be hard enough for some guys to get laid at all but even harder in the real world for guys to get to live out their niche fantasies. I realize that watching my vids & imagining they are right there or they are the guy in the scene is as close as many of my fans will get to a real experience…be it a cuckold experience, or real humiliation experience, or even foot worship!

Watching my vids is a safe, discreet way to get their kink on & in some situations it’s probably better than the real thing. One could argue that the thrill & fulfillment from an in-person experience can’t be matched but one could counter argue that real life seldom lives up to expectations. It really depends. It’s a gamble.

It’s certainly a lot more cost effective to jerk off to a $10 vid than to spend hundreds on an in-person session with a Professional Dominatrix, although if you have the money that’s certainly a better option than spending hundred of hours trawling dating sites trying to find a woman who is into the same kinks, lives near by & with whom you get along with otherwise.

With this in mind I put in a lot of effort to genuinely connect to my viewer. I know that this experience might be the closest they ever get to living out their fantasies. I try to make it as real as possible.

I wonder how this is different from just watching the action in a porn vid where the performers don’t look at the camera & don’t address the viewer. It’s very rare for me to do a scene like this. Even if I’m doing a scene with a guy I usually address the viewer at some point, even if it’s just making eye contact with the camera lens, to let the viewer know I know he’s watching. They call that “breaking the 4th wall” in movie-making & theater. Deadpool does a lot of that & even points it out. (Side note: LOVED the movie Deadpool!).

But it can pull you out of the fantasy. It was certainly a no-no to look at the camera during most filming traditionally.

So, I wonder how ‘voyeur’ style porn vs. “POV” style porn effects the sexual development of men, young & older? Would POV style porn better prepare a guy for the real thing? I wonder how a guys body responds to POV vs. voyeur style scenes? For example, when I put the goggles on to view VR (virtual reality) scenes & I looked up to see a woman standing over me my body had a very noticeable physical reaction. My body did not know there wasn’t a real person there. I automatically reached up to touch her & it felt like I could.

The voyeur aspect of just watching people having sex or doing a FemDom scene, ignoring the camera certainly has its place too. That’s a style of viewing we’re certainly more used to. It’s how most TV shows, movies & traditional porn is presented.

  1. Hey there,

for me the voyeur style never worked. I simply can’t get aroused by vids shot this style. Don’t know why that is, but if I had to guess: to me the personal relationship, i.e. making a connection, is always an important part of sex or even a simple conversation. In fact, I think conversations and sex are quite similar. When I first saw a POV-style video I thought: this will be the future of porn. Why would anyone like to have it differently? I mean, do people have sexual fantasies in which they don’t occur?
But voyeur porn seems to be sold just as much, probably much more. So maybe it’s just another fragment of one’s sexual identity!? A preference or an orientation…

So far I didn’t test VR, but this is how normal (2D) POV-videos (especially Virtual Sex) affect me: If they are shot in a good (realistic) angle and I manage to position the monitor accordingly, e.g. above me in a riding scene, the illusion is almost perfect and gives me a long lasting satisfaction.
Here a dominant/controlling role of the actress helps to explain my subconsciousness why I’m “just lying there” and not engaging in any form. 🙂
So, I guess, I’ll be impressible by VR similar like you portrayed your experience.

The influence on young men is a tough one. I think, if at all, it can prepare them only in the way, that it reduces their fear to try sex. Giving them (knowingly) the illusion of having had sex before. The actual thing is just so different and -obviously- way more interactive. Since the “video” surprisingly reacts to your actions. 🙂 So, I’m worried, that for some individuals, if they’re too used to the one-way-communication of videos, it could make the first time even more difficult.
As I said above, sex is a lot like a conversation. And you can’t learn to have conversations via video, can you? Even if you learned certain principles and techniques that way, you’d still need the practice.

I just realize, how interesting these questions are and that I could write a lot more, but I don’t want to let this comment get too long, so…
I hope, this adds something valuable to your contemplation. 🙂

    Cheers,
    juttics

P.S.: I bought your last two VS-Videos and loved them. Deeply appreciated, great Work!

  2. The Voyeur style is effective to some extent, if the viewer can imagine themselves in the scene. It helps a great deal when Mistress interacts verbally with the other performer(s) as this can really help pull the viewer into the scene. As you mentioned you often talk to the camera as though talking to the voyeur watching, which adds a great deal. With the voyeur style, it may be harder to draw the viewer in, if they can’t relate to the scene. The type of fetish obviously plays a big part.

With POV, there is much greater interaction and the viewer feels much more immersed in the scene. The most powerful POV approach is of course when Mistress is directly speaking to the viewer. When the camera acts as the view of the other person in the scene, it too is effective, but again depends a bit on the type of fantasy.

As for VR and goggles, I haven’t had much opportunity to explore this as yet. No doubt the 3D and ability to look around the scene can be an added experience viewers will enjoy.

I’ve been with a ProDomme a couple of times and both experiences were incredible. Any videos I had viewed prior to visiting a ProDomme simply allowed me to better understand what fetishes and methods excited me the most. That being said, no video can truly prepare one for the anticipation, nerves and physical reactions that come with a real-life experience.

  3. After watching many videos of femdom voyeur style porn along with POV style, it has become apparent to me that the two styles could be effective but usually lack in the one key quality that can really make a video great. Usually I find that POV videos have an advantage in this quality, but not always.

As you stated Mistress T, many of the men including myself don’t have the opportunity for sex or to play out their femdom fantasies as much as they would like if at all.

In voyeur style videos, men project themselves onto the male submissives and imagine what it would be like to be them . In POV movies, men imagine they are kneeling in front of you while you give out commands. The reason POV videos may have an advantage is becuase they can offer the viewer a heightened sense of what they really want, intimacy. Of course, intimacy is something the producer of the video can never really offer the viewer, but there are ways to create a simulation of it.

Right now I can type into a google search “femdom” and find tons of voyeur style videos where the dom seemingly just stands there and whips or spanks the sub, relying purely on the shock value of the visual images of the video to make it successful. In very few of these videos is an active believable dialogue between the play partners that would indicate a level of trust or loving relationship that would be present in a real life play scene between a dominant girlfriend/ wife and their submissive boyfriend/husband.

I think the reality of the debate between POV and Voyeur comes down to how well the producer of the video can simulate a real life experience while staying within the confines of the computer screen.

The voyeur videos that really “do it” for me are the ones where there is quite a lot of buildup verbally or physically prior to any BDSM activity commencing. This can include a myriad of things but for example: kissing, touching, kneeling, collaring/application of other wrist or feet restraints and discussion of planned activities while staying in Dom/sub role play. Also laughing can be key becuase if I am going to project myself into a situation, I want that situation to be fun! This ritualization of pre-scene activities seems to add an air of reality into what could be a very surreal video. I think there is a clip from the desperate housewives show where one of the characters is waiting to be dominated while his mistress gets ready. Before he is trampled, they discuss why he can’t do BDSM with his wife. I found the scene to be really hot. I will try to link it in a subsequent comment if I can find it.

I think I have reiterated many of the sentiments expressed by a previous commenter who discussed the importance of using dialogue to immerse the viewer into the scene, especially in voyeur style videos.

“Breaking the fourth wall” and directly addressing the viewer can be very effective, but might not be necessary if there is already an active dialogue between the Dom/sub in the video.

  4. Hi Mistress T,

The video link won’t work but you can find it by going onto YouTube and typing in “Dominatrix Real Housewives”.

It should be one of the first videos to come up under that search. The display image is that of an older blond woman holding handcuffs and wearing a pearl necklace.

    Thank you Mistress T!

  5. I am a big fan of the POV-style video, especially when there is some diaog directed towards the viewer. My strongest fetish is cock and orgasm control. It really helps to fulfill the fantasy when you turn to the camera, giving direction on what should be done and finally gving permission to cum. I have been practicing edging myself while watching clips of your videos. You are brilliant, beautiful and without a doubt in control. Thank you for all that you do.

  6. I have one of the new VR headsets, and PoV is obsoleted by it for sure.

I find the VR experience massively more compelling than the more traditional PoV style ones.

The role play aspect is especially amplified by the new tech.

I even had a psycho-somatic reaction where I could have sworn I smelled skin lotion from being so close. I was rather surreal actually.

However, as a nascent technology, there are..well..technical things I hope to provide feedback on.

I find that having the camera positioned at a standing height more comfortable.

Having someone looming high overhead compels the viewer to look up a lot. Neck strain, and an out of focus VR headset can happen (it pulls down and moves away from the eyes.)

Leaning tight into the camera may feel intimate, but it can make me go cross-eyed trying to see that close up (from my point of view we are nose to nose…).
The view gets very out of focus.

    Arms length seems ideal.

I also find that I lean back instinctively to preserve a social norm of personal space ( ironic in an adult situation, but instincts run deep…). Moving my head and body can cause motion disconnect between what I can see, and what my inner ear can feel. It can be unpleasant at times.

On one of the other recordings I have tried, someone re-postioned the camera while filming. I definite no-no.

I find that personally for me, a surrogate male seen from the 1st person, is somewhat less than convincing. It feel to me like I am resting my head on a man’s chest.

The eyes, the camera that-is-me, yes.
Talking to the camera 4th wall style, very much yes.

The stand in could be a sex toy really. VR is more suited to voyeurism and cuckold scenes. Being too close, as I said before, is tough on the system.

I would imagine that VR will be huge going forward.

  7. Hi. First time poster. I’ve been a long time fan and found your comment that many of your viewers do not have a lot of sex or experience with DS.

As someone who falls outside of that group, I really wanted to make my voice heard about VR. Your work with HologirlsVR was amazing! Completely different than imagery and sound.

I think VR is much more suited to POV, where your talking to the viewer, and playing with a stud or stunt cock.

If you make more of your VR videos, I will purchase them.

I just really wish they had 3d 270 cameras so I could make my own content 🙂

Thanks again for all your work..Very good stuff.
