My birthday celebrations are not over but I am feeling so grateful I just had to make a post today.

Yesterday was my 40th birthday & so many of you helped make my day awesome. It was a wonderfully blended day of my ‘work’ world enhancing my ‘personal’ world.

Then I went for a nice brunch with a close friend.

My birthday celebrations continue tonight. I’m heading out with friends to a lively, sexy party where I’ll have a few drinks, dance a lot & who knows what else:-)

Then I will start chipping away at my list of 40 awesome things to do the year I’m 40. I plan to make this milestone year remarkable. Thanks to a sweet fan I already have a night at the symphony (on my list) planned for next week & a big concert (on my list) mid May. I have already started volunteering (which was one of the things on my list). I’ve been paired up with a nearly blind elderly lady for weekly walks. It may not seem like a huge thing, it’s not going to lead to world peace, but it means a lot to her & it feels good for me. It’s a start…& if everyone just did a little something for other people in need the world really would be a better place.

I have a bunch of other things to plan, hiking into hot springs, skydiving, paragliding, kayaking with Whales (ethically, at a respectful distance), finishing my book, random acts of kindness, converting a meat eater to vegetarianism (any volunteers who want help with that? Reduce animal cruelty, help the environment & improve your health!), learning Spanish, etc. I’m super excited about my 40th year!

My birthday is coming up!

Why on earth would I be announcing my birthday? Presents, of course! I’m not really into Financial Domination but I’m not going to pass up an opportunity to get presents, gifts, offerings, goodies, treats, etc. Who doesn’t like getting presents?! *grin*

My birthday is April 29th & it’s the big 4-0 for me this time. I know, I look fantastic for my age & I feel fantastic too. Healthy diet, yoga, lots of walking, great sex, keeping things low stress, getting decent sleep…always striving for balance.

I have big plans for this year. Rather than celebrating with a birthday dinner or party I’ve made a list of “40 awesome things to do in my 40th year”…so that I mark this milestone year with a lot of memorable & meaningful things. Back to work!

So I got back to work yesterday. I filmed for the first time in months, the longest filming break I’ve taken.

I had planned to start filming again in April & my keen film guys were chomping at the bit so filming got scheduled for April 1, without delay.

What hadn’t been scheduled was a bout of unglamorous food poisoning the day before. I was feeling pretty weak the morning of filming and considered cancelling the whole thing but decided to soldier on. I have always hated cancelling plans & pride myself on a reputation of being super reliable.

I dusted off the lights that were in storage and checked the camera to make sure it was still working. During its hiatus the battery had stopped working even though it was charged, but the camera works while plugged in, so no panic. That wonderful camera has traveled all over the last few years and has served me well. I don’t plan on retiring it. Hopefully a new battery will do the trick.

I had recently converted my purple ‘set’ to teal and I was excited to see how it would film. Yup, that’s what gets me excited and I’m not alone. I’ll give you a bit of behind-the-scenes info. I’ve filmed on a lot of sets and producers tend to put a lot of thought into colors and details. We really do get excited about our sets. Truth.

I took extra time to do my hair & make-up. I knew I was feeling tired, I didn’t want to look tired.

Good from bad.

Life can be complicated sometimes, can’t it? Things are usually not all bad or all good. We can feel a range of emotions & even opposite feelings at the same time.

I was recently in Thailand, doing yoga, writing, taking a break from work and enjoying the heat. I had just traveled from one island to another to take a scuba diving course when I received a message about a death in my family in Nova Scotia.

It was evening. I had just arrived by ferry on a tiny island in Southern Thailand with a small bag, enough for a few days. The rest of my stuff was with my boyfriend on another island. I sat there reading the message, in shock, needing to suddenly be somewhere very far away and being powerless to get there. Someone very dear to me needed me, someone who would be very traumatized by this death.

I eventually gathered myself, spoke with family members and booked onward travel for the next morning, with a great deal of difficulty and expense. I would go straight from there with my flip flops and summer dresses, travel for a couple of days to get to snowy Nova Scotia. I didn’t know when I would see my boyfriend again and we’d been joined at the hip for months. It was a long, lonely journey.

Death is something that happens to all of us. It’s what surrounds it, the details or sorting things out afterward, the adjustment of life without that person that sometimes we don’t expect to be so difficult.

I said at the beginning that things are not all bad. In this case I have spent a couple wonderful weeks connecting with family in so many ways. It has been very emotional, mostly good. Pretty much all good actually. Who knew so much joy could come from death? It’s difficult to fully explain without giving away too many private family details but I’ll say that as a result of this death some of us have come together and connected deeply like never before. I’m very sad to be leaving soon to go back to Vancouver but excited to be reunited with my boyfriend (who is coming home early from Thailand too) and other friends. This is the reality for many people who decide to move away from their family. Over time you have one life in one place with people that you love and also in another. Always feeling torn between being happy where you are and longing for somewhere else.

So it goes.

I’ll be back in Vancouver soon but I have no plans to get back to work any time soon. (So requests for webcam, custom vids, sessions, film slave applications, etc. will continue to be deferred until April). I plan to write and do yoga as I was doing in Thailand but from home. A ‘staycation’. (Is that how you spell that?) I’ll take time to be kind to myself. I’ve already booked a day at the spa shortly after my return, using a gift certificate from a thoughtful fan. These selfless gifts from fans mean a lot. It makes me feel that some of you see me as a real person and not just an object.

Who am I to you?

I’ve had a lot of time to think here in Thailand. I basically just do yoga, eat, sleep, write and do a few other fun things. It’s the longest I’ve gone without filming or editing. I have an auto-responder on my email so I just check it occasionally for anything urgent that my auto-response doesn’t address.

I haven’t told a single person in a month what I do for work. I realized last night when I met someone new and told the white lie of being a video editor. Thailand so far…loving it:-)

Thailand is wonderful!

The trip is going great so far. I’m not sure that I’ve ever been quite so good to myself.

I eat delicious, healthy food, including at least one coconut a day. I do yoga every day, sometimes twice. I get a nice Thai massage every few days. I sleep in bungalow in the jungle with a gorgeous fresh breeze off the ocean. I take in some live music a couple times a week, worship at a yummy chocolate temple and do a therapeutic steam/body scrub weekly.

And I write. Blazing fingers, clicking away. It feels amazing.

I’m supported by a really good girlfriend who will be here for the first month. She hangs with me a lot for yoga, eating & social stuff but she’s independent & gives me space to write. My boyfriend is the same. Being supportive & encourging.

Whatever happens or doesn’t happen with the book I will always have fond memories of the process, at least the start. Writing out here on the deck surrounded by the lush jungle and the symphony of sounds, birds and insects serenading me (when my boyfriend isn’t actually serenading me)…looking out at the view, the torquise water and mountains beyond.

So I’m doing well here in Thailand.

Work-wise, everything seems to be going along nicely with that. I am grateful that I set up an auto-responder for my email. I understand that auto-responders rub some guys the wrong way BUT pretty much all of my emails can be answered with it. Guys know immediately that I’m not accepting custom video requests of sessions of any kind, anywhere until the end of March at the earliest. They then also get all the info they need to properly communicate what they want, how to apply to be a film slave, etc. It is actually very helpful & efficient and has made my life so much easier.

So far only one doofus took advantage of the “urgent’ option of resending his email to get my immediate attention. His ‘urgent’ need was to know when I would next be coming to England so he could consume my waste. I admit, I was pretty fucking angry that he would interrupt my vacation with a bullshit ‘urgent’ request like that. I told him off but it ruined my morning. I couldn’t seem to shake the anger that a guy would be so selfish and rude. It made me feel even more grateful for this break from work. I love filming, I could happily sit in front of the camera all day performing, but interacting with a lot of the guys who contact me wears me down. John Q Public, as they say, can been very difficult to deal with.

So, if you want to serve me in a positive way, just don’t email me until April. That would be awesome. Thanks.

I have really exciting news.

It’s been a few months in the making. I wasn’t sure that I would be able to do it. But I have just reached my goal.

I’ll explain.

I’ve planned a trip to Thailand to attend a yoga school, to get my padi (diving certification) & to work on my book. Yes, I’m finally writing the book so many people have been encouraging me to write. I needed to work extra hard filming & editing to build up enough content so I could put my energy elsewhere for a few months.

I just edited the last of my filmed content & I have enough! So I will be going to Thailand early January for two & half MONTHS! I will not be bringing my filming equipment or my editing computer. No filming or editing to distract me from writing.

Although the idea is to take a break from my business I plan to post pics on twitter & Tumblr + make regular posts on my blog to give you all a peek into my tropical paradise & my progress. Less frequently…& I probably won’t check my email as often but I’ll still be around enough that those who aren’t readers of my blog may not even realize I’m away so long.

My partner is coming with me as well as another gal pal. I’m trying to entice a few others to join. We’ll see:-)

I’ve spent a lot of time in Thailand but each trip is different. My first trip I was in my early 20’s, naive, inexperienced & unprepared. I didn’t have a Lonely Planet guide book & the internet wasn’t what it is today. I had quite an adventure & I ended up getting help from a lot of people along the way.

But that’s another whole story. Clearly I made it out alive & have returned several more times for the delicious food, the heat, the stunning beaches, the relaxed vibe & friendly Thai people. This will be my first time attending a yoga school (I have no interest in becoming a yoga instructor, I just like yoga) & it’s embarrassing that I’ve never done the scuba diving course. It only takes a few days & it’s cheap in Thailand. I love snorkeling & I took a half day scuba course in Bali a couple years ago in order to do a little mini-dive. I promised myself I would do more.

One more day in Phoenix. Meg (My pal & FinDom extraordinaire Princess Meggerz: http://meggerz.com/) is flying here tomorrow & we’ll do some day hiking in Joshua Tree for a few days. Meg will go back to NY & my boyfriend & I will head north, back to Vancouver. I’ll probably still do some filming there with my regular stunt cocks, enjoy the holidays & then early January: zoom zoom.

Top 3 Favorite Places

I just tweeted to my 46K followers that I’m taking requests for a blog post today. I quickly received a variety of topics but the one that stood out was this one from ‏@Honeybadger_85 :

“@MistressTdotnet I’d love to know if you have a top say 3 places to visit in the world. For either work or pleasure Mistress. Xx”

That seems appropriate considering that I am traveling right now (in Phoenix).

Before listing 3 places I’ll give you a bit of background, for those who don’t know me very well (yet).

I love to travel. I caught the travel bug at 18 when I took my first trip to Cancun, Mexico from Nova Scotia. I’d never been out of the province & never been in an airplane. It was a huge adventure & I was hooked. I started traveling every chance I could. I have now been all over Canada & the US, including a few trips to Hawaii. India (twice), Toyko, Thailand (5 times), Vietnam, Cambodia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bali, Cuba, Belize, Mexico (4 times), England (8 times?), Paris (3 times), Amsterdam, Brussels, Italy, Berlin, Budapest, Greece…I think that’s all?

Most of the travel was on a shoestring budget/back packing. For example, I spent 3 weeks traveling around Cuba, staying in Cuban’s homes, not in a resort. I’ll give Cuba an honorable mention for the wonderful people & their sexy dancing: yum.

My #1 favorite place is Thailand. I like the warmth, I love the food, the people are friendly, the beaches are stunning, getting frequent Thai massages for around $10 agrees with me (everything is very affordable there) & it’s an easy/safe place to travel.

My #2 favorite place is Maui. Mostly because of Little Beach which is a gay-friendly, clothing-optional beach. Being naked in an open-minded setting is my happy place. The weather is also great in Maui. It is part of the US so it’s very civilized which for me is both a pro & a con. I enjoy experiencing different cultures so I find the familiarity both boring & a comfort. My only real complaint about beautiful Maui is that it tends to be a bit expensive.

My #3 favorite place is Paris. I find beaches more relaxing than cities but as far as cities go, it’s hard to beat Paris (although New York is pretty awesome too!). I love the architecture, the museums, the fashion…but most of all: the food! I dream of their fresh croissants, their cheese, their wine…it seems like everything tastes better in Paris. I also get a kick out of their surly & indifferent service. Servers in cafe’s & restaurants don’t work for tips so they don’t lay on syrupy sweet phony customer service. I enjoy the honesty of their indifference to me. It’s a refreshing change.

In writing this post I found myself remembering the positive things about all the places I’ve traveled. Sometimes it was the views, sometimes it was the architecture, the food, the people, the weather, the culture…sometimes the person I traveled with made the experience more or less enjoyable. Mostly though it was what I learned about myself through travel. For example, my own personal limits to discomfort, stress, unfamiliarity, etc. My ability (or inability) to maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations. I learned what I’m actually not that bothered by (I have a much higher tolerance for dirt when traveling, for example…I’ve slept on the floor of filthy trains in India, I’ve stayed in some pretty dodgy places all over the world, I am less bothered by my own personal hygiene when traveling & will wear cloths a lot more in between washing than I normally would…& I don’t care.)

I’ve learned to be more accepting of different people & different cultures. This is not an insignificant thing. It perhaps played into my being more accepting of people with a variety of fetishes & kinks.

Relaxing in Phoenix…

I write this from sunny Phoenix in a comfortable apartment I rented for a couple of weeks. I’ll soon head out to the Jacuzzi & maybe take a swim in the heated pool. Not sure it’s hot enough for that today, we’ll see.

I can relax…see! 🙂

I’ve only been in Phoenix for a couple of days & I haven’t seen much yet. After moving around so much (7 places in 2 weeks!) I was ready to just chill, read, make love in the middle of the day, eat at home & sleep. I’m reading “Sex At Dawn” in case you’re interested…& I’ve been watching “Blacklist” on Netflix.

It was quite an action-packed 2 weeks. Lots of visits with friends, lots of beautiful terrain, discovering new places, etc. I filmed some fantastic content in Vegas with Slave Wade, who Lexi Sindel graciously loaned to me. Sharing is caring!

I almost had a session in Vegas but that didn’t work out at planned. I only accept the occasional generous booking these days & I always require a deposit. Any Pro Domme will tell you that guys who book sessions often flake out, cancel, chicken out, etc. It’s just part of the business. Even when they make a deposit they’ll often jam out but it does make those incidents less irritating.

So I accepted a booking with a deposit & arrived at the clients hotel early to enjoy the spa & to have a snack with my boyfriend in the cafe. A half an hour before the session the client emailed to say that he was so nervous he’d given himself an upset tummy so needed to cancel. I told him that he should at least come say hello & not miss the opportunity to meet me. He said he was on his way down.

I waited. I finished my food & paid. He hadn’t shown up. I emailed to say I was leaving & he said he was just too nervous to meet me. As I was leaving I saw a shifty guy looking at me funny. I paused long enough to give him a chance to say hello. He didn’t. I figured it was him but what was I to do? I walked away as he was emailing me to please come back & give him another chance. I didn’t but he sent more money for wasting my time.

What do you think about that?

Here’s a blast from the past. When I was a newbie Domme (nearly a decade ago) I used to go to cities like Calgary & do these crazy marathon work days. Holed up in a basic 3 star hotel room for a few days seeing 6-9 clients a day (1-2 hour sessions). I had a limited offering & hotel rooms were not equipped like dungeons so my sessions were often similar. Tying guys to beds or chairs, CBT/NT, sensory deprivation, golden showers, foot/boot worship and a whole lot of strap-on. I used to get reviewed on a popular review site & after one of these trips 3 different guys gave almost identical reviews. Oops. *smile*

Those days are behind me. No more assembly line sessions. I take them when I’m in the mood, when I think I’ll enjoy someone & when the money is compelling enough. I confess, I get a rush out of being offered a lot of money for a little of my time & attention. Maybe there’s a bit of a Financial Domme in me after all?

So here I am in Phoenix, trying to set up filming in the next couple of weeks. I know I can only relax for so long before getting antsy. I thrive on being productive and I want to film. My happy place is in front of the camera. I have a couple of guys lined up this week but I don’t count my chickens until their hatched. I haven’t had as many applicants as I would have liked. Not yet anyway. Frankly, I’m surprised…although it seems that the more famous I become the more intimidated guys get. The nervous Vegas guy isn’t the first one to chicken out like that.

I’m just a nice, normal person in real life. I’m really fun to film with, nothing to be scared of.

Okay, maybe be a little scared:-)

After Phoenix we’re heading to Joshua Tree & Palm Springs for about 10 days then doing a faster road trip back up to Vancouver. Probably not stopping long enough anywhere on the way home to see anyone, but it’s a road trip after all, which allows more flexibility.
