The book. Yes, I wrote a book. I’ve learned that writing a book is easy! The hard part is in the editing. That’s the work. Getting a polished product across the finish line. It’s been edited twice by two different editors. I’m on my 3rd editor who is half way through. After that I’ll have a special nit-picky editor do the last sweep to perfect all punctuation, grammar & spelling.

I want it to be right. I want to put out a good product & being my first book I am learning as I go. It’s an emotional project. The book is about my life, the ingredients that went into me becoming Mistress T & my life in this role. There’s plenty of salacious stuff of course, but it’s an accurate reflection of a real life lived & that means there is heart break & emotional trauma too because who gets to their 40’s without having some shit happen?

The ending of the book has been the hardest. I aim to summarize my view of how the adult industry has been both empowering & objectifying for me. I’m trying to walk the line, explain it the right way so a reader can’t say that I either glamorize or condemn the industry. I don’t want my book used as evidence that being a sex worker is damaging but I don’t want it used as inspiration for a woman to get into the biz, not understanding the full spectrum of how it can affect you.

So that is my work this week. Crafting an ending that is all things. Accepting that the lens of the reader will still influence how they interpret it.

Current challenge: I could use little review blurbs for the back cover. Publishers typically have a system for getting other authors to review each others books for the back cover, or something like that, but I’m self publishing. There’s some controversy around these review blurbs. Marketers say it’s a must. Skeptics say it’s just authors doing favors for each other. Does it even make a difference anymore? As with everything I do, I aim for authenticity so I’ll take a sincere review from someone who has enough “celebrity” status to carry weight. Or I’ll just not have any. Whatever. If you, yes, you reading this, can assist me by either being a “celebrity” or reputable reviewer or can help connect me with an appropriate person I would be grateful.

I’ll be doing an audio book, narrating it myself. I might do a video series of me reading the book too. We’ll see.

I plan to use Amazon to distribute & haven’t worked out a painless way to sell signed copies yet, but I know there will be a demand for that. Some of you know that I’ve been working on a book for the last year. The mostly done manuscript (1st draft of the book) was delivered to the editor the end of December. I knew it would take her a few months to go through it so I’ve just been waiting.

I wasn’t sure what to expect. I wrote the story in such a way that I thought she might want to rearrange things to make the story arc more compelling. Being my first time I figured that there would be a lot of changes.

We had a meeting the end of last week & it went really well. Far better than I could have dreamed. Not only was she very complimentary, she’s actually reducing her fee by a 3rd based on how little work she’s actually going to need to do on the book. That’s how I know she isn’t just blowing smoke up my ass, she really does think it is great as it is. Of course there is still work to do. We’re going to meet a couple times a week & chip away at the fine details. Things she feels need to be expanded on, etc. I also didn’t have an ending but discussed my ideas with her & we agreed on how it should go. I need to write that part but in the meantime we’ll work on the rest together.

I’m beyond excited & relieved. I feared that she would come back with it all torn apart & barely resembling what I created. I’m paying her to help me make the end result great, not just to stroke my ego. I wasn’t prepared for her to love it so much & to say that it actually didn’t need that much work. We even discussed a potential spin off series…but let’s get this one birthed first.

I can’t give you an ETA. Maybe a few months? As we’re wrapping up I’ll be working with a designer & marketing company to move it through the next steps. I’ll be self publishing. I also plan to have an audio book narrated by me, of course.

Some of you know that I took a few months off last winter to start writing a book. I went to Thailand & made quite a lot of progress before my trip was cut short & I needed to return to Nova Scotia due to a death in the family.

I still had some time to write back in Vancouver before I got back to filming & editing but after that my writing got stalled. I thought I could work & write but it didn’t turn out that way. Months went by & I didn’t write a word. So I pushed to build up enough content so I could take a few months off from filming & editing again.

I’m about half way through my second & current break & I’m pleased to say that I’ve been writing like a mother fucker! I’ve made huge progress & am in the last end of the first draft of my book. There’s still a lot of work to be done before you will have an opportunity to read my book but the hardest part is nearly done.

The book is a ‘fiction’ based very closely on my life. VERY closely. It tells the story of the making of Mistress T from the beginning, from before I was even born actually. All the ingredients that went into the final product. Those with interests in psychology will likely find lots to think about. I wanted to have the freedom to embellish or omit things here & there as well as add a bit of creative writing (completely fabricate some parts) so I decided to not make it an autobiography…but again, the vast majority of the story is 100% true.

Now that it’s nearing the end my excitement is really building. I decided to write this book for me, to process some of the things that happened to me in earlier life & understand how they contributed, for better or worse, to the adult I am. I saw writing as a kind of therapy. Now that it is taking shape & I’ve spoken to a handful of experts, it’s possible that this book could become quite successful…which would be a nice bonus.

I’ll soon hire an editor & others to help move through the next steps. I’ll likely self publish but will still need a team of professionals to assist with the process, a designer, a good marketing company, a studio to record an audio book, etc. I am starting to look for the right people & companies so if you have recommendations please send them my way. (I am looking for those top in their field & I have a budget for it.)

Though I should have enough content to get me through I want a bit more of a cushion so I will be doing a couple days of filming in the next couple weeks. Exciting plans:-)

I have really exciting news.

It’s been a few months in the making. I wasn’t sure that I would be able to do it. But I have just reached my goal.

I’ll explain.

I’ve planned a trip to Thailand to attend a yoga school, to get my padi (diving certification) & to work on my book. Yes, I’m finally writing the book so many people have been encouraging me to write. I needed to work extra hard filming & editing to build up enough content so I could put my energy elsewhere for a few months.

I just edited the last of my filmed content & I have enough! So I will be going to Thailand early January for two & half MONTHS! I will not be bringing my filming equipment or my editing computer. No filming or editing to distract me from writing.

Although the idea is to take a break from my business I plan to post pics on twitter & Tumblr + make regular posts on my blog to give you all a peek into my tropical paradise & my progress. Less frequently…& I probably won’t check my email as often but I’ll still be around enough that those who aren’t readers of my blog may not even realize I’m away so long.

My partner is coming with me as well as another gal pal. I’m trying to entice a few others to join. We’ll see:-)

I’ve spent a lot of time in Thailand but each trip is different. My first trip I was in my early 20’s, naive, inexperienced & unprepared. I didn’t have a Lonely Planet guide book & the internet wasn’t what it is today. I had quite an adventure & I ended up getting help from a lot of people along the way.

But that’s another whole story. Clearly I made it out alive & have returned several more times for the delicious food, the heat, the stunning beaches, the relaxed vibe & friendly Thai people. This will be my first time attending a yoga school (I have no interest in becoming a yoga instructor, I just like yoga) & it’s embarrassing that I’ve never done the scuba diving course. It only takes a few days & it’s cheap in Thailand. I love snorkeling & I took a half day scuba course in Bali a couple years ago in order to do a little mini-dive. I promised myself I would do more.

One more day in Phoenix. Meg (My pal & FinDom extraordinaire Princess Meggerz: http://meggerz.com/) is flying here tomorrow & we’ll do some day hiking in Joshua Tree for a few days. Meg will go back to NY & my boyfriend & I will head north, back to Vancouver. I’ll probably still do some filming there with my regular stunt cocks, enjoy the holidays & then early January: zoom zoom.
